Volunteers are part of the Habitat DNA. Last year we had over 500 volunteers on site who made a positive impact within local communities. Their passion, spirit, enthusiasm and support contribute to the successful development and completion of community and housing projects. Having the opportunity to interact with new people as a team or an individual, learn new skills and touch the lives of those in need, is an invaluable experience.  Whether it is for one day or a week, we welcome all volunteers to join us! Here are some of the ways you can get involved:

Local Opportunities

One of the best ways to get involved is through volunteering on our community or housing projects.  These projects range from garden maintenance and fixing play structures at Charlie Chaplin Adventure Playground, which serves disabled children and their families, to painting and decorating a women’s refuge or demolishing walls on an empty home renovation. We welcome existing and new corporate partners to partner with us to support projects such as these, whilst promoting team work and investment in the local community. Our corporate partners generally support our community projects (as well as housing), but we also welcome individual volunteers usually on our Empty homes and new build projects, encouraging them to be an advocate for Habitat for Humanity, and fundraise to support the work we do. Local projects provided by HfH Homes are usually based in London, open to all those who would like the opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and have the chance to make an impact on others within the community.

Global Projects

See the world with Habitat on a Global Village trip, and help bring stability and restore self-reliance to families and communities. Trips to Africa, Asia or Latin America, you will have the chance to build homes and hope and expertise local cultural activities during breaks from the build site. Volunteering abroad will offer you a life-changing opportunity to help us break the cycle of poverty.

Habitat Professionals

Make a difference in the community where you work or live by contributing your time and professional skills. We would love to hear from you if you believe your skills could be beneficial to one of our projects.

More ways to volunteer

We are a registered charity and therefore we are governed by a board of voluntary trustees.  We are currently looking for volunteers with relevant skills to join the board. We are particularly looking for people with experience in community engagement, fundraising and communications to serve as board members. The board meets 4 times a year in London and members are expected to attend these meetings whenever possible.  Please contact our CEO Gareth Hepworth to discuss further.

There are many more ways to get involved. We have our Women’s Build Week and Individual Volunteer Weeks. Please speak to Kaia Ita, our Corporate Relations Manager for more details.

Skilled or un-skilled volunteers, we welcome you all! No matter how you choose to support us, know that you will make a difference to not only someone else’s life, but also your own.
